New York State home inspectors must be licensed by the state and follow the state’s Code of Ethics, Regulations, and Standards of Practice. The practice standards establish a minimum baseline that must be followed by legislation.
The standards are intended for general house inspections and do not apply to commercial inspections. A general or normal home inspection is a visual examination of the accessible areas (areas that are safely and readily accessible) that is non-invasive (we don’t pull things apart).
